I was 4 in 1975, but like everyone else was in the North Bank running the Red Army.

Must have been about 125,000 people in the NB that day.

I think we are talking about the same day as I do recall they were in the second division at the time.

As you say, hordes of them. They had massive away support in those days.

I was in the northbank in 75

I couldn't believe what was happening

"Come up the northbank " as they were pushed onto the pitch - I have never seen so many scary hammers as that day

It was as if the east end turned out to welcome they

This was West Ham v Man Utd at UP 75, it doesn't show anything much apart from the packed crowd, most of the agg went on before the game kicked off, although it didn't stop.

This was definitely retribution for Man Utd taking the piss at UP in 67 and about East End pride, not just the Mile End Mob, but the word must have got around that Man Utd were coming on mass as I swear thousands, anyone who was up for it in the East End that day turned up and got stuck right in, many no doubt had no interest in football, just didn't want the stigma of Northern hooligans taking over their local manor and made sure they would be a hefty price.

Shame they didn't show the goals as it was a great game that we won 2-1.

I see coco's name mentioned here. I grew up a few doors down from him and say what you like about him being a manure supporter but he's as funny as fuck, generous to a T and still follows the reds all over the world.

S B E, I remember that day if its the same one, it was about march 75 we was at Wolves they was in the second division at Villa they were running wild up and down the land(till they came back up and got the biggest hiding of their lives at upton park the following Oct/Nov),on the train we went through Villa I remember looking down at the hoards of man u and everyone asking what would be the best way back to brum, mind you we had enough trouble of our own in the massive Wolves south bank.

Re: Cockney Reds
Me and my mates used to detest Man. Utd supporters, even more than Chelsea and Millwall, but we reserved particular contempt for the Cockney Reds. . When I was younger I couldn't fathom how you could support Man. Utd coming from London. We saw Banana Bob and his mob as glory hunters and bullies who we would seek out at every opportunity. They were game when the numbers favoured them, but not so game when numbers were even. We had many run-ins with them over the years but the most vicious incident was behind Birmingham New Street station sometime between 1972 and 1974 (as close as I can get from memory). They had been at either West Brom or Villa and we were coming back from Wolves. About 15 of us decided to go for a drink. Came out the station, turned a corner and there they were, Mancs and Cockney Reds. All hell broke loose. Glasses, bottles flying in all directions for several minutes until the OB arrived. It was their main boys at the time. Coco, McIntyre, Salford Sean, Pancho and several geezers from London, although I don't recall seeing Banana Bob that evening. I have to admit had the OB not arrived when they did we would probably have come a cropper due to the weight of numbers in their favour.

Here is a little tale from yesterday which sums these cunts up

After game a few West Ham were milling bout having a chat at crossroads where you walk down to tram

All of a sudden, where's your famous ICF was being sung and a load of shouting
Imagine there suprise when the 15 or so West Ham turned round and smiled at the mouthy cunts
Being well dressed and cocky cunts they knew who we were
You could have heard a pin drop as there arseholes went

Turns out they were bullying two younger west ham kids who had come unstuck

Train back was unbearable. All of those cunts were going further South than me as well. 4 of the cunts were from Bedford.

They have no soul.

Man U in 75. The Mancs were on the east side of the south bank. During the second half they were pushed out onto the pitch. Outside they were mullered.

A fine post that arsegrapes.

To think I was too far up my student, middle-class arse at the time and missed out on all that when I had the chance is one of the main reasons I post on here.

Re: Cockney Reds
75 at UP Man Utd had the biggest away support I have ever seen at UP since and in the SB. The year before they came up from the old Division 2. It was said that they took every away home end in Div 2 and it was the most tense atmosphere I can remember at UP ever, I think because they had such huge numbers, more tense even than all the Millwall games with the helicopters (I was too young to see 67 where Man Utd had a go or took the NB according to some on here who went).

Obviously West Ham were expecting Man Utd to bring a huge following to this game and try and take the NB, but I remember getting there early as many others at about 11am and the queue being massive for the NB. When we finally got in they closed the turnstiles with thousands locked outside. The NB was rammed with West Ham only, who sang all the old chestnuts "South Bank, South Bank do your job"! "South Bank do your job"! West Ham Aggro, hello! Your never make the station! Your going to get your f*****g heads kicked in! Your being going home in a blue and white ambulance!

SB did their job most of the game from behind and the Mancs to their credit had a good go back, but alas capitulated and ended up on the pitch, game stopped etc.

Excellent game we won 2-1. From memory we went 1-0 up and the place went mental, queue trouble, then they equalized queue even more trouble, then Bobby Gould got the winner and the place was rocking. Reports they were ripped apart outside, I was too young to know of such things and made my exit on the tube to get home in time for tea, was plastered all over the front page of the Evening News read on the train home.

I was on one of the cattle trucks after losing 4-2, I would guess it was 84ish the carriages where shit and it took an age getting back to London.
I've been going for years.I have never seen a mob turn up at ours worth worrying about.
